konlin-gappmayer_1_03-12-2025_162118:Okay, it's Kate Hudson's new show, which is really the reason why I watch the show'cause I like her a lot. how to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is literally one of my favorite movies of all time. I love it. She hasn't done a lot in a minute, so I was excited to see her in something again. Um, this show is fine. She is part of a family that owns a basketball league and her brother, who is the one who's kind of the chairman, he's running the league, has a drug addiction and ends up going to rehab and names her as kind of the replacement. She's loved basketball her entire life. And has kind of been put to the side because her dad is a misogynist type of person and doesn't believe in her. So she ends up being the starlet who goes and gets, uh, she starts doing drugs, and this is on the cover of all these tabloids all the time. And this is kind of her comeback story where she can do what she really is passionate about. The show on its own, a story about basketball, a story about a team that's suffering and coming back together. All of that is really interesting. But they don't focus on the basketball quite as much as they focus on the drama, which for this kind of show would be fine, but the problem is every part of it fills you've seen it before. Uh, I, I don't like the saying like this is written by ai. I think most of the time it doesn't feel like it's that way. This, to me, feels like it was written by ai. It's like point needs to happen, then this point needs to happen, then this point needs to happen it makes it so the whole shows watching just kind of feels a little shallow and not very engaging overall. You have Kate Hudson, she lifts up the story a little bit. Um, you have Brenda Song, the Girl from, uh, the

There's a lot of good aspects, but the story is, so I've seen this 10,000 times that it kind of becomes, eh.

Someone took a thousand different scripts, put them into a system, and they were like, oh, these are the main points that we need for a story. We're going to just put in those points. That's all that this felt like to me.

It is the Big 12 Conference Championship in basketball this week, so I'm gonna be rooting for BYU. Uh, March Madness, of course, is coming up trying to see where everybody's gonna land once that gets started. Formula one season starts this weekend. So I binge watched all of Drive to Survive season seven because I have been just really excited for Formula One ever since the end of last season.'cause at the end of last season, there was no clear best car. So we're going into a new season and there's literally arguments for four different teams. To win races

josh-dietrich_1_03-12-2025_122123:which they showed some of to be fair. But the big drama that I wanna talk about is George Russell, a driver. I don't like.

josh-dietrich_1_03-12-2025_122123:Max Tappin, my least favorite driver on the planet, started to have this like rivalry with each other. Uh, it was very personal because George is not nearly as good of a driver as Max and isn't in as good of a car as Max. So they weren't really like on track rivalry, but it got to the point where towards the end of the season, they had a driver dinner where all the drivers were there. George was the last one to arrive and everybody thought it would be so funny if they left the seat next to Max Open and George walked in, grabbed the chair and moved it to the other side of the table. That's how personal this has gotten. Right. Did they show this rivalry or drama in Drive to Survive season two or season seven? No, they did not.

josh-dietrich_1_03-12-2025_122123:I mean, drive to Survive has a history of like exaggerating things. Sure. But to outright, like omit some big drama that happened during the season, I'm not too happy with. And they built this narrative around George, about how he was charging up to become the new leader of Mercedes because Louis Hamilton. Is leaving for Ferrari. So they need their next number one driver, George is trying to say it's me. So they built up that drama and then outright lied, saying he won a race that he was disqualified from.

josh-dietrich_1_03-12-2025_122123:So I mean, it's gotten to the point where they're not exaggerating anymore. That's just a blatant lie. Yes. George Russel crossed the line in first place. But to say he won it would be wrong because he was disqualified for it. Louis Hamilton won that race. Um, and like I can see their motivations to it because Louis Hamilton has never really been involved with the show. So to prop up a character that isn't even part of your show, then that doesn't make any sense. Whereas you can build this narrative around George Russell, it makes sense. I just, I wish they would've just shown the drama that was actually there.'cause I get it. The first half of the season was super boring, but the second half was so full of so many stories and there was the Max first Stepin versus Lando Norris drama that happened and they mentioned it more as a side note than what actually happened. So they're downplaying real drama and they're over-exaggerating an outright lining about drama that's not even there, and they're not even mentioning the most interesting drama. So it was still an enjoyable show. It's still great. I still love Drive to Survive. I'm really happy I watched the season of of the show. I'm still hyped for the next season. We've got six new drivers of the 20 seats, so. Literally right over a quarter of the drivers are brand new to the sport, which means anything can happen. Anybody can show up and play. And also there's gonna be carnage because new drivers plus land stroll is never a good combination.

josh-dietrich_1_03-12-2025_122123:I think I'm in the minority where I became a fan of the sport, then watched drive to survive.
konlin-gappmayer_1_03-12-2025_162118:And how did you become a fan? Again, I actually don't remember this.
josh-dietrich_1_03-12-2025_122123:So I was working the night shift at security and I'm a car guy. I've always loved cars. Um, I've tried getting into racing previously. I've tried watching some NASCAR on tv. Super bored. I've tried watching some other stuff. Super bored. But I have the ESPN app and am a fan of car things on social media. So I was aware that going into the last race in 2021, that Max Tappin and Louis Hamilton were tied in points. They were marketing the crap out of it. You know, whoever wins this race or even finishes ahead of the other driver in this race. Wins the World Drivers championship. So I knew that going in, I was like, Hey, I've got nothing else to do. It's two o'clock in the morning here in Utah, there's, it's snowing outside. Uh, I'm super bored. I have Sling TV and it's on ESPN. Let me just try and I'm gonna try doing sport watch motor sports differently. This time I'm gonna root for somebody. So I decided ahead of time I'm gonna root for whoever is losing the race. And if I like the sport between Lewis and Max, because those were the only two that I knew. So whoever was behind. Then whoever lost the race would be, if I continued on with the sport, I would be a fan of them. So Max versus Lewis were racing for my fandom as well. Right. I turned on the race, max was behind. I was rooting for Max. Um, even at the beginning when there was some drama about Lewis cutting the corner, I was like, okay. We can move on from that. Let's go Max. Come on. It's a race. Don't get hung up on this thing. And he ended up getting so far behind. I was ready to be a Red Bull fan. I was ready to max. Were snapping a hat. Red Bull, let's do this. And then the crash happened and the commentators were doing a really good job with explaining like, Hey, this is how things usually happen. Um. You know, it's unlikely that we're gonna get another racing lap, but I know they're gonna try and push to get one more in because of this. They were talking about the situation with the tires that both drivers were in, and I was like, governing body needs to uphold the rules, right? Refs in basketball and football, their focus should be on the integrity of the sport, not the excitement of the sport. Right? So in this case, the referees, the FIA, decided to rule in favor of the excitement of the sport, not the integrity of the sport,

josh-dietrich_1_03-12-2025_122123:thus causing max for stepin to win. Because he had the advantage on the tires and he didn't have to fight through driver other cars like he should have. Lot of reasons went into it. Max won. Max is a phenomenal driver. I have since rewatched that whole season. He deserved to win. I'm not gonna argue any of that. Um, but I was still ready. I was like, Hey, you know what, max for stopping. That's my fandom. And after the race, Lewis went and shook. Shook Max's hand said, congratulations, you deserve this. You're a grit driver. And in response, max first step and said In your face, how dare you question my, my driving. Right. Red Bull's response was, how dare you. Right. The interviews work. Do you think that like this ruling is gonna get upheld? Do you feel like you actually earned this victory?'cause I gotta be honest, if I was max, I wouldn't because I won. Because the referees directly involved themselves causing this outcome, right? That would take away from that victory just a little bit.

josh-dietrich_1_03-12-2025_122123:Not saying entirely, but just a little bit. It's a fair question to ask him and he said, how dare you question. I'm a, I deserve this victory. You know, all he had to say to keep me as a fan was, you know, it's a tough race. There's lots of stuff that happened earlier in the season. We raced the race that we're given. I came out this time, of course, I'm grateful for the win, and I would've been like, good Max way to go. But no, he, he questioned the question in a douchy rate way, and not only did Max, his entire team did the exact same thing. And so that was like, okay. I watched one driver respond with humility and respect something I am a big fan of, and I watched the other driver win sorely, and in my opinion, probably didn't really win, you know?

josh-dietrich_1_03-12-2025_122123:Like, like if I was elected FIA president tomorrow, I would reinstate Lewis's last lap because the FIA should not be making marketing decisions. They should be making decisions to uphold the integrity of the sport. They didn't. Um, so I would. Lewis, you already got your title. Congratulations, max. You're only down to three. Sorry. That's just the way it is.'cause we're gonna be focused on integrity moving forward. We're not gonna be worried about the excitement of the sport going forward.

But it looks like McLaren Ferrari have the best car. So often we see people ranking, you know what they predict. The World Constructors Championship is gonna end up like most have Red Bull in the fourth fastest car. Some have them as the third fastest car flipping with Mercedes and McLaren is generally just one. They ended last season with the fastest car. Ferrari's generally too. There's a few people that would switch those. Um, but that's where that ends up. So it's predicted that like Max, even though he's the, you know. It's seventh or eighth. Fastest driver with the car. I bet he's gonna finish top. I bet he's gonna finish third, fourth, maybe. Um, so,'cause he's

There's new blood, there's plenty of new people. You know, sign some young people while you develop.

And like I was the fan of the sport during the Schumacher days, but I have researched enough to know he is kind of more like a Max V stat type driver. So like there was a point in time where he crashed his own car into the person he was about to lose to so that he would still win the World Driver's Championship. Um, that's dedication. That's also not honorable. Lewis is an honorable person, so

I have a lot of respect for him as a driver. It would be great for me if like Liam Lawson is his teammate this year. He's technically a rookie. He raced half of last season if Liam shows up and kind of makes Max worried for like his throne of greatness that he is on right now. That would be great because down with Max is great, but Liam isn't any better. He is just as arrogant and Max earned his seat. Liam didn't, which like I really am not a big fan of, so Max raced for Toro Toroso, which was Red Bull's Junior Team,

They said he's a great driver. He is. Proven it. Boom. Liam Lawson is in the same spot. Last year he was put in the Visa Cash app, which is just the new name for Red Bulls junior team. And he was told. You have to beat Yuki Sonta in order to get the Red Bull seat. He didn't beat Yuki Sonta. Yuki Sonta kicked his trash on podium, on pole, like he, he started higher end races, he finished iron races. He got more points over the time period, and they gave it to Liam anyway because they didn't have anywhere else to go. Basically, red Bull has been so focused on Max. That they have not been developing. Any other drivers?

But if you beat Yuki, right, they told Daniel Ricardo beat Yuki and the seat's yours, Yuki beat him. They told Liam beat Yuki and the seat's yours, Yuki beat him.

josh-dietrich_1_03-12-2025_122123:He used to be, when he first got into the sport, he would put in these phenomenal experience, phenomenal races, and he would put in utter garbage finished, finished, last kind of races. But over the last like season or two, he's been pretty consistent. He's been pushing the car pretty much as good as it's gonna go.
