Hey everybody. It's onscreen, offscreen. We talk about movies, books, TV shows, those things that influence who we are and where we want to go. Josh, let's start with you, with Last Man On Earth, season two. Tell us about it.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Uh, so they go to California and I was really hoping when Jason Sudeikis kind of got with the group. He would level it. all out and kind of make things start to work. Um, our famous Ted lasso in stuff that I've seen him in, I honestly really thought he was gonna be a good balancing act. I also thought the black Phil Miller was a terrible character and I wanted them to get rid of him. Uh, originally at the beginning of season two, I thought that they were gonna go off. Find an entirely new group of characters to group up with and we wouldn't see the season one characters again. And I honestly thought that that was for the better because a lot of these characters were quite irritating to me being on that point. Jason Sudeikis does meet up with the group and they do get rid of Phil, but they make Jason SKU's character the new Phil and. Do the same things and it's really obnoxious. It really feels like the, the writers were the kind of people in middle school who kind of got a light laugh at a joke when they were in seventh grade and can tire and used that joke and beat it to death all the way through their senior year because they got that one laugh that one time. That's how I feel like Last Man on Earth is season one and season two both.'cause it just feels like, Hey, this joke kind of worked. Let's let's reiterate it and reiterate it and reiterate it and reiterate it and reiterate it. And you're like, okay, we can move on from this. And they're like, no, we're gonna reiterate it at 12 more times before we move on. And it's like, no. You have beat this joke that was only mildly funny to complete death, and it feels like to me this show started as a pretty good entertaining show and with every second it has ticked down in quality all the way through. And it got to season two and it didn't stop. It just continued going down. I completed season two. Plot wise, nothing really interesting happened. Nothing of real value happened. Season one was a pretty good show that kind of made you think like, oh, you know, we're guys, so we've got our zombie plan. Do we need to refine our zombie plan for if there's no one left? And season two is like, no, you're in a stupid place, Phil, the idiot. A jerk off guy is completely right. The fact that you chose to live here is absolutely insane, and they even go over the problem of like gas going bad and nobody says, Hey, there's a Tesla charger on the house with solar panels. Maybe we should drive electric cars then. No, they're still out there like no drive the A team fad. So it's, it doesn't even feel like they're indulging in the universe that they're creating Where. they're the last survivors and they're just trying to make it all a joke, which is fine. It's just they're beating that joke to absolute death. It did slip to the point Where I was like, you know, I wish I hadn't watched. This whole show, I wish I had stopped'cause it was not worth
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Where would you have stopped?
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:End of season one.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Okay. That's how I was too. I think I got to the secret Santa episode of season two and then I stopped, but I
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:I know.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:remember. I just, I didn't like season two really at all.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:I
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:nearly as funny. I just, I didn't think it was good.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:like I said, it's as funny as the end of season one is, right? It was just declining and declining and declining and really the only reason I watched season two was because of Jason's, Jason Sudeikis, and I thought, Hey, he could really level this out and get this to a point where I'm regularly laughing. Now, there were a couple of little laughs in season two. Mostly towards the beginning of the season. uh, it just like wasn't worth all the other garbage and weirdness that they decided to do, and stupidity and all of the characters felt even more one dimensional than they felt before.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:became, it's like opposite of character progression.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Yeah, they became simpler characters instead of developed their characters and their backstory. Like Tom, originally in season one is this guy who you actually kind of like,
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Yeah.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:and he, he adds to the comedic value and in season two he becomes Phil from season one. There is literally a scene where he's like, whoa. I don't wanna lie to anybody, but what if we all keep banging, but just with me? And you're like, okay, Why. gross? Let's not do this. Please be done. So yeah, that's my review. This didn't make me feel better. This didn't make me. Laugh or have better days, it was just a waste of time. Last Man on Earth, season one I think is genuinely worth watching.'cause it is a a thought experiment and you do kind of think like, what kind of last man on earth would you be? Would you be blowing stuff up? Would you be worried about grammar? Would you be, you know. X, Y, Z, would you, where would you go? You know, along with some pretty funny jokes, even though it's not usually my kind of humor, but it just, it's a steady decline and I think the end of season one, I would rate it as like a six out of 10
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Okay.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:it's kind of in that zone of like, I don't hate that I watched it. It's probably a little better than mediocre. But probably not something I'm gonna revisit anytime soon, if ever. And season two, I feel like just picks up at like a 5.5 outta 10 and very quickly goes under a five and continues going down and down and down and down. And while I think even at its worst, it's not like, wow, I hate myself for watching this. Or what a waste of time or what, like when I watched Ted. It never got that bad for me, but I'm not gonna give Season three a chance. I'm not going to be recommending this show to anybody. I'm not gonna be like, Hey, did you ever see Last Man on Earth? You should check it. Nope, because
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:If you wouldn't even do that with season one, I would the first half of season one. I, I love, I love the first half
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:I would have to be in kind of a similar conversation already. Because like if we were talking about last person, you know, zombie apocalypse or whatever,
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Mm-hmm.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:I might be like, oh hey, have you seen Last Man On Earth? season one. was really good,
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Okay. Okay.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:but I wouldn't be like, Hey, season one was so funny. You should go check It out. If that makes any sense.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:It does.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:So, I mean, that's just where I'm at. I'm just like, Ugh. Season one was pretty funny. I was chuckling and laughing at the beginning and kind of hurling towards the end, but like, it's a very uneven show and it's hard to be like, yeah, the first time you're introduced to the show is the best the show will ever be.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:That's also true.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:It's like, it's, it's not gonna make my recommendations list.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Fair enough. And it's kind of hard to recommend when you're like, you know, these first couple episodes, there's some really, really good stuff, but you're slowly gonna get to the point where you don't like this show at all.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Yeah. And it's. just gonna be this slow burn through every single episode.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Not like, what's the other show? The show where they're, uh, going on their family road trip for hand sanitizer,
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:detour.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:detour. It's not like detour where you have one really solid season and
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Yeah.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:wanna pretend it never, there's nothing more, you totally can. This one's like you have a really good couple episodes there and the editor, there's more story, but you don't want to see that story.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Yeah. And you know, part of me is like, Yeah. but what if season three's better? You know, the, it made it to four seasons. What if it's better? But I'm also like, Ugh, I'm good. I'll pass it.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Yeah.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:I'm okay missing out on this stuff more. It was enough for me.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:you went further than me. I am kind of curious to like watch a recap or something of season two, three. I. Part of four and just watch the last couple episodes to see how it ends. That's my only curiosity.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:They have babies. That's what happens. We find out In season two, two, the characters are pregnant.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Okay,
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:That is literally the only thing of value story-wise to tell you as kind of like a side note, there's a guy consider convinced it's a government conspiracy who's gonna kill all of them out in the middle of the ocean. So that may come up again. Maybe not, but it could.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:but that's it.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:That is literally it. You don't need to watch any of season two. I just told you everything necessary to the block.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:so season two and they moved to California, which I
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:they're in California, which I'm sure in season three, they're gonna choose somewhere else to be, because
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Why not?
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:why not? And that kind of makes sense.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Yeah,
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Yeah.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:anywhere. Have fun.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Yeah.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Anyway, I. Hot smile on earth. If you guys like that kind of comedy, the first part of season one is very funny, legitimately really funny. All right, I'll move on to my topic. We got One Tree Hill season seven, you said that you didn't like the show once they, once some of the characters leave and I think the first half of this season is easily one of the best parts of the entire show. I actually really liked it a lot. Um, I like the Quinn and Clay relationship. I think it's a good relationship. I like Clay's development of his wife him seeing his wife. I think they actually something that's a pretty, pretty tried out topic, but they did it really well. They, um. I, I developed, I, I liked his character. I liked the way that he connected with Nathan. I liked the best friendship there. I liked him trying to deal with the pain of his wife while he is dating this other girl, he has this interest in this other girl. I like that Quinn is actually an enjoyable character. Um, has her own goals and her own beliefs and her own vulnerabilities. It was well done. The stuff with Dan and him having the show. While a little cringey that he is dating the bad girl from high school, and that whole storyline's kinda like, eh, I like the storyline of Dan trying to be different making the actions required. He kind of like plays the villain. He is been the villain for so long, but he is the villain that does what's required to be able to be successful. Like there's that scene where he is like drowning clay in the water and he says, are you gonna be, are you gonna be a wink, a whip? Are you gonna give up? Is that what you are? Is that who you are? And he pushes him to be something more because he's been broken down so many times and that matched Dan's character. It matched where he is come from, and I thought it was a good piece of writing. They did a lot of really good stuff in this front part of the season, uh, with a co a couple little caveats. Like I, I didn't really like the Dan relationship that much. That wasn't great. um, I didn't like that Haley was convinced maybe that could be cheating. I liked it a lot better when they were one unit and she was just trusting him. They played that up for drama. Didn't really love that, Dan. I liked a lot of what happened with Dan, but as the people who are filming the show, they film it as you knowing that he's the bad guy. So you believe that he's the bad guy when not giving you all the information as you're watching the show to realize what he's actually doing. So they're forming it as you know, his history. So you're just gonna make these assumptions about him, and I didn't really love that writing and that aspect of the show. These are all little nitpicks in what I thought was really well done, put together. Jamie's still a little kid and he is still enjoyable. Then you have the second half of the season, you have the moment where Hailey's mom dies the whole Hailey mom is suffering. The sisters are coming together. The one sister believes that she's a broken person. I really liked that whole storyline. The mom dies and they're standing at a funeral and I'm like. You have no, no, no reason that Peyton's not here. You're not even gonna try to explain why Peyton would not show up for her best friend's. Mom's burial. You shouldn't probably make an explanation of that. Jamie has this gross spurt he's older now, and all the cuteness where they're trying to write him as a little kid doesn't work anymore. It like, he's just too old for the character at this point. Um. They don't know where they're going, so they just meander about for half a season with literally no storytelling happening besides, like, Hailey is upset because her mom died and so she's burning pianos, I guess, and it's, it, it, it goes downhill very, very quickly,'cause I think the first half of the season is really well done.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:I am glad you found enjoyment in it. That's all I can say to it.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Yeah, I will review season eight next week, but it seems like it's, it's going downhill real fast so I can understand why you liked it less, liked it less.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Well, for me a lot by this point, a lot of the show was not great.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Okay.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Right. Uh. Like I said, there's like one season after Dan, you know, where they're trying to figure out who Dan's attempted killer was. I thought that was like the peak of the show where there was actual like real human emotion and motives and probability and things like that.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Yeah.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:And even though that scene season kind of. Dissolved at the end where they were trying to increase the number of possible killers. So they were like, well, maybe it was this person and maybe it was this person that wasn't great, but you had like a season after that where everybody's trying to figure it out and deal with it, go through it. You find out who it is you're kind of dealing with. That kind of stuff is really good. That show is really, really good. And ever since that point, you know. They leave high school, you get a whole heck of a lot less of Peyton, my favorite character. You get a whole lot less Of Chad Michael, Mary's character, who's like the Luke Skywalker. You know? He's the guy who's the hope, you know. He's always hopeful and positive, and after that he's just not that guy and they try and make Nathan that guy. And you're like, yeah, no wonder Chad, Michael Murray left the show and Peyton left their show. because you basically dissolved their characters into one dimensional people who weren't at all who they set out to be throughout their high school journey, and it just didn't work for me. Beyond that point, the characters that they introduced basically felt like, well, we have to replace Peyton and Chad, Michael Murray. So we're gonna get Walmart brand, Peyton and Chad. Michael Murray.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Is that how Clay and Quinn felt to you, the
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Yeah.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:and, okay.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Yeah. It was basically like, okay. we have to introduce these new characters. They're gonna be the new Chad, Michael Murray, And, the new Peyton.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:And,
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:So they're gonna have,
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:artistic side'cause she takes photography and
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:yeah.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:that's our artistic person. And
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Yeah.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:you have the Nathan's brother, which is the, the, uh, Quinn, not quite clay person.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Yeah. And it, it felt like it really wasn't flushed out or thought of Well, and it really felt like, Hey, we're gonna tweak it a little bit. So it's not the exact same, but essentially we just couldn't get these actors, and honestly, I would prefer. Last man standing situation where they just replaced the actor
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:You
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:let the audience deal. Yeah,
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Okay.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:because those were the characters that I, I had been rooting for since the beginning. Right.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Hmm,
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:They were the ones that I was like invested in and while Brooke occasionally stepped up and did something cool and Nathan's wife, I forgot who that is, her character's name, Hailey. Also has her shining moments, particularly towards the beginning of the show. It was mostly Peyton and Chad, Michael Murray's character that I was like, these are the people I can root for. Because they're the only ones who are genuinely like good people,
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Okay.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:you know, at their court, even though they do stupid stuff, they're the ones who. Are at their core, doing it for selfless reasons or to get by, or you, have some kind of understanding for them and like all that kind of stuff. So I would way rather they had just been like, yeah, we had plans for their characters. Those actors don't want to return instead of replacing'em with, uh, Walmart brand is too nice. Uh. Family Dollar Tree versions
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:It was that
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:going to. Yeah.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:their relationship. I liked them.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Uh, it was so like, it, it really felt to me like that you're pushing'em halfway into these character stories because the previous actors, even though they never mentioned these people before in their entire lives, have to have this bond with them. And it's, it really was not great for me.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:did you like the whole trying to get Nathan Nathan's contract stuff?
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:No.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:The agent stuff. Okay. I liked that stuff.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Yeah,
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:I thought that was good.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:no. I thought Nathan taking the turn where he was like, Hey, maybe being a player isn't in my path anymore. I should explore coaching or, or being an agent. That was where I, was like, Hey, that's a good trajectory for Nathan.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Oh,
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:then they were like, but maybe he'll be a player again. And you're like, oh my gosh.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Yeah. Yeah. I, I liked the agent and trying to get the money. I'll talk about season eight more next week, but the whole, my back is hurting. I'm not gonna be a player thing. I thought was so stupid.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Well, it was before that.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:yeah, they all, they, they do it kind of twice. Yeah.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:because the, I liked it The first time right when he, when
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:The second
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:he's
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:terrible.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:right. So when You first get, meet Nathan Post high school, right? He's, he's injured. He's really down on himself. He's like I've got no future, whatever. And he builds himself back up by still involving himself in basketball in different ways. That's what I liked.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:okay,
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:I hated when they were like, but maybe he'll be a player again. You're like, oh my gosh, let's move on.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:I might not be as hard on it because I do like Nathan and Hailey and Brooke is easily my favorite character in the show, easily.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Yeah. Brooke is not somebody I root for until the end,
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:I like
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:and then without her. dynamic with Peyton, it really, really falls apart
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Hmm.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:for me.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:I. Like her development basically the whole time. I think as far as a character that's developed in one of these teen dramas, I think she's my favorite as far as development goes.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Well, she's the only one who does develop.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Yeah, I, I
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:cause every other character,
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:well.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:when they develop, they just revert it. Right? Like Peyton has a lot of growth in the beginning seasons about getting over her mom's death
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:and then
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:and like finding herself. Then they're like, Hey, but you're leaving the show, so we're gonna make you be that very basic version.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Yeah,
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:and it's like they just undo it. Brooke actually changes right? And she has some reversions, but They're not nearly to the extent. And so you can actually like
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:and she
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:you.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:dumb about it and actually like changes. It's
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:And so it's. Go. Uh, she's easily my next favorite character. But yeah, Nathan and Hailey, I hate their relationship.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Yeah.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:To me, that's the relationship of absolute worst case scenario relationship for people
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Okay.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:where one is just maybe I can save them And the other person is just blatantly taking advantage of it. but then does change because she's just so amazing.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:She's just so pretty.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:that's, that's awful. Do not get in those relationships. That's awful.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Fair enough. Fair enough. Well, yeah. Anyway, uh, first half of this season, much enjoyed it. half not good, and we'll talk about season eight next week, but it is worse. It is. It works, but. That is my review of One Tree Hill seven. Let's go to our shared topic, Spider-Man, the animated series, and I'm reading your notes. It sounds like you did not enjoy this.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:I did not, so I barely was able to get through three episodes of this show. Uh, yeah, I could not motivate myself to watch any more of it. The animation was terrible. I. Awful. So they have a rule in animation that you're supposed to animate on every specific frame. And like in the Spider Verse movie, it's very cool because you have the punk rock guy who breaks that rule.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Mm-hmm.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:This whole show is breaking that rule. None of it is smooth or consistent, and It doesn't fit the show? The artwork and the drawing. It's good. Like the punk rocker's able to break that rule because he's the punk rocker guy. So him being animated on every third frame or whatever it is, fits his character
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Okay.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:right. But because this show is animated, I feel like on every 10th frame, it just feels jittery and awful to me, it doesn't feel smooth. Uh. I think the writing of this is awful. Even for a kid show specifically. Each episode has one awful, terrible, overly forced jumping through hurdles, pun, and I hate pun and pun, that you have to work for that hard to get to is even worse. And I was like. Each episode's like 15 minutes. It feels like 45 minutes of hell to me. I cannot watch this show anymore, and I do apologize. It's just terrible.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Spider-Man won the movie. There's quite a few puns in there.'cause Spider-Man is kind of famous for his puns. Do you hate that part of the
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:No, he's, he's, he's famous for being witty.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Okay.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Which is different than a pun. Yes, he does have puns. I don't love puns, but like there is some humor to the dad pun, or to the obvious pun,
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Okay.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:this one, you literally have to jump through hurdles to get to that pun. Like
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Hmm.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:it's not an obvious pun, it's way forced. So it's just like, and then the show pauses as if somebody's gonna laugh to it and you're like. No, nobody's laughing to that. That was terrible. Let's move on. so yeah, what did you think?
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:so I loved the show. As a kid. I, the reason that we watched it is'cause I watched it over and over and over again and loved it. show feels old, like really, really old. Um, and I actually liked the animation still. I broke down in my notes that I liked the animation style better than I liked Ironman just kind of felt like this is computer generated. Like it's fine. This one felt like a nice hand drawn felt comicy. I, I liked the drawing aspect of the show,
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Great.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:agree the writing is pretty weak. Um. It depends because it's so much you're fighting this villain and then this villain, and then this villain. you really like this villain, the episode is better. But if you don't like the villain, like the lizard one, the lizard episode was not good. if you don't like the villain that much, then all the extra kind of bad riding aspects of it overshadow. Any of the good that I have in the episode LA later in the season, you have the venom storyline with the black suit, and I think they actually handle that pretty well. you have a lot of other episodes where it's just kind of like, this is so corny and this is so nineties and this just feels really, really old. I liked, I liked Ironman better than I liked this, unfortunately. Kind of sad about that. But
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:am not sad about that at all.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:if I just like. Animated superhero stuff less than I'm older. I don't know.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Uh, I think there's something to say about how much superhero stuff we have.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Yeah.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:don't know if it's animated superhero stuff, but there's just so much superhero content these days
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Mm-hmm.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:that it's, feels a little overboard and like exhausting. Um.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Things can just improve and I think that this set a, a foundation for what we have now that is, that is better.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Yeah. Uh, as to talk to the comparisons between Iron Man and Spider-Man. Uh, the, the hand drawing comic bookie nature of It is better. I completely agree with that. Uh. It just feels like it was not animated on time. Right. It was cheaply animated. So the best way I have, Yeah. the, the best way I have to illustrate that is like in Spider-Man, and he's swinging through the city. They have all of the elements there, right? there's cars in the street, there's people, there's, you know, things going on because it's in a city. Iron Man is not that way. He can be flying over the city and you might see one car on the road
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Yeah,
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:you're like, no, this is New York City. There's never just one car on the road. Right? So you can see where Iron Man saved their budget
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Mm-hmm.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:where Spider-Man saved theirs. It's like if you had the smoothness of Iron Man and you had the drawing of Spider-Man. You'd have a really good piece of animation there. My problem is, is like I can overlook a city without cars because he's flying by so fast. You can barely notice it. And I can't get past the, the animation timing'cause it's every second of this piece of art. So that's, that's the comparison I will make there. Uh, story-wise, they're both for about the same audience. Spider-Man's probably a little bit younger, but Iron Man does the thing where they try and make it more than just a monster of the week show. And Spider-Man
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:necessarily have a problem with that. It is just that in this one, there's some of the monsters where they're just like, eh, that's rough.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:I don't have a problem with it either, but like as an adult coming to it, you have a little bit more appreciation for the episodes that are building towards something bigger, like in the Iron Man episode where they did the nano bot technology. Virus thing, right? They set it up and didn't pay it off till the end of the season. Whereas Spider-Man, it's like, Hey, we saw the episode and that is it. Uh,
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:done. done
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:yeah.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:next.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Uh, so those are differences. Not saying monster of the week's bad because one of my all time favorite animated anything is Scooby-Doo, and that is nothing but monster of the week.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Yeah, and uh, I like supernatural significantly better when it's just monster of the week.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Absolutely. Yeah,
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:way better then.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:absolutely agreed. Um, so it's not a bad thing to have it that way. I'm just saying like, non-MS the week is a little easier to digest as an adult, I think. Um, and it, it shows that they're putting more effort into the writing than I think the effort we got into the writing of this one. But
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Okay. And you, do you think it was just bad or is it just old and not. Connected with the times very
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:I didn't get any kind of feeling that it was old.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Okay. It felt
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Uh, like, yeah, it was nineties, but it had its own artistic style. Like I said, the drawing was really good. I didn't have any problem with the drawing.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:It was. There wasn't enough frames.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:That they just weren't framing on time. So it felt choppy and not a little disconnected, and you couldn't really avoid it or ignore it, at least for me. Um, I think that this show could be touched up and would be a lot better, probably. I don't know. I. Yeah. My thought wasn't, this is old. My thought was this is animated very poorly and the writing is getting on my nerves.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Okay. Fair enough. What? guessing you have like a A two.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Like a four and a half out of 10.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Okay. Okay.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Yeah, like. Wasn't really, I mean, like I described it as 45 minutes of help, but it really wasn't that bad. Like the animation was bad, the puns were bad, but there's still elements to look at and still really appreciate. Like the animation when it came out was probably pretty good. I don't think it was the best of the day, but like the drawing was really good. I really like Spider-Man's character. I love the voice actors. I think all the voice actors do a really good job of what they have. It's just like, Hey, if you could like stop forcing the puns. I get it. You're gonna have some puns. It's a good show, but you could really like tone it down just a little bit and then flush out these characters a little bit more and animate on time. You have something enjoyable to watch. I'm sure.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:Okay. Okay, I
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:What about you?
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:it like a six.
josh-dietrich_1_06-11-2025_131727:Okay.
konlin-gappmayer_1_06-11-2025_171723:A six. But guys, that is gonna be our episode. We appreciate you watching, like, subscribe, all that good stuff. See you next time.
