josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Hey everybody. This is on screen, off screen show where we like to talk about our media intake throughout the previous week, and specifically how it impacts our lives, looking for stuff that makes us better or happier. Um, I'm gonna go ahead and get started with my first, uh, topic. It was a recommendation last week from my two co-hosts here, spirit Fairer, the Game. Uh, we had a nice long talk conversation about, uh, slice of Life games. What was the actual argument about, I forgot what was

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

games.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Cozy games. There we go.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

games.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Whether or not this is a cozy game or whether, or what cozy games. are, What is a cozy game? and Conland hates these slice of life games, but really, really liked this one. Lauren could not say enough really good things about this one. Uh, slice of Life games are very hit and miss for me, and unfortunately, this one's a miss. Uh,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Oh, dang it.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

there's a lot of really good aspects to this. I think art, art design of it is exceptional. I like The premise of it. I think it's really, really good. Um, I got really bogged down by a lot of the tasks and got very irritated that like I had a garden and a snake that was hanging out in the garden all the time, but would not help with the garden at all and would just play a stupid instrument. And I'm like, you're making me do all of the work for all of these things. And you guys are supposed to be my aides and all I have to, all you're aiding is talking to me.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

The snake doesn't help you with the

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

No, I still had to water and plant and pick and do all of the things. it just like followed me around all the time.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Yeah. normally she makes your plants grow, so her music makes it go grow faster.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Great. The frog guy is supposed to help you build things and it just doesn't do anything. And I'm sitting there like, okay, I understand that. Like I have to like have these kind of jobs to do things, but like having the snake water, the plants while he is in there still make me harvest and plant or whatever. Sure, I get it. But I'm carrying around these useless people who use my resources. I. And like I'm sitting there like, oh my gosh.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Josh is

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Ugh.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

is freeload of the game. Screw

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Yes.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

the game.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

That's what it's, They're not helpful. They're not doing anything. And it's like,

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

They're not helpers.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

enough dumb asses in my real life. I don't need to manage you. Stupid snake.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Hold up. Hold up. how far into the game did you get? Did you

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

I played for like two and a half hours. No,

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Okay. No, you go back and you play this game again.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

no, no. They literally announced themselves as helpers.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

It's.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

That's how they introduce themselves. They're like, I'm so happy to see you. I'm gonna turn into my true form. I'm a frog. I'm so excited. I need my own personal space So that I can help you better. You're not helping me now.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

So ignore, ignore what they say. They're not gonna be as helpful as you want them to be. But the point is for you to help them to be able to like, finish what they need and'cause this is kind of like the afterlife. And then for you to take'em to the bridge and you need to figure out who these people are to you. And that's where it gets impactful. And I like having the little, uh, chores on the ship because your ship takes forever to get to island. To island. So that's the things that you're doing you can get to the island. You do your little chores and stuff, and then you go to the islands and you'll get little quests and you'll get more things to bring back to your ship. And you'll go back to the sharp guide to make your ship bigger so you can get more things. Um, you need to try it again

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Oh,

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

until, until you take somebody across the bridge. I do not accept your, your review.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

why do I need to take somebody across the bridge like I already know All that stuff.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

To get, to get rid of the freeloaders, Josh, to get rid of the freeloaders.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

I, my problems are still there. Like you're supposed to figure out who they are. They announce who they are. What are you talking about? They tell you right when you meet them.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Like that he's your uncle.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Yeah, He literally says, I'm so happy to see my niece. What are you talking about? We have to figure out who they are.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

because there's

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

They tell you immediately who they are. I, get that you're Chiron and that you're the, you're taking them on your boat and you're, you're their passageway from life to the afterworld. That's very apparent. When you're Chiron, you're literally the replacement for the guy. Like, ugh.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

I kind of wanna get you to a save where it's not because like. I feel like further on in the game, it's not so bogged down of you like doing all of these little chores it's more story near the end.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

I

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

I, I, yeah. I want to get to a save like that and then have you try it you don't have a whole bunch of freeloaders on your show.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Like I said, I acknowledge the purpose of the game. I accept what is going on. They call themselves helpers and they don't help.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

I think you're stuck on the wrong thing.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

I acknowledge that you need to have some chores, but like if they're there to help you, why are you literally doing absolutely everything yourself? It's like it just didn't work for me. Honestly, my favorite part of the game is when the cat gets shot by lightning.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

That's not what I thought you were gonna say. I thought you were gonna be like, my favorite part of the game was when I turned it off and it was done.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Uh, no, because I decided I was gonna turn it off and be done with it, and then played it for another hour.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Hmm.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Well then, uh, can we go into spoilers so I can tell you what they're helping you with?

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Go for it. I already know.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Do you,

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Yeah.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

what, what do you think it is?

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

You're just helping each other pass beyond to the afterlife.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Yeah, because you're dying

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Yeah.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

and you're in a coma, and then like,

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Yeah.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

sparks where you like, see like the spirit owl and stuff, and you get to, you start to get these memories back and they're helping you deal with your own memories. And so the way that they're helping you is telling you your memories. I'm not gonna help you cook and do the manual labor, anyway.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

the, the point of a healthy, happy relationship is two groups helping each other, not one group helping the other way more than the other.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

I

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

cause you're also helping them with their memories and their experiences and moving them onto the afterlife while feeding them, growing their food. Having princess deer face say, I had that yesterday. I'm not going to eat it again. Are you kidding me? That's terrible. Eat your damn popcorn and be happy freeload.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

okay, what's the whole point of the game, but that's fine. Oh.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Josh, to be fair, I get where you're coming from. I still think the game is worth playing, but I absolutely understand why that would frustrate you. Right. You, I think that's fair, to be honest.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Like, I'm not making any kind of claim about cozy games or slice of play games or being like, I'm not saying that this is a bad game, to be clear. I'm not trying to say that at all. I'm just saying this one did not work for me. And those are the elements of it. Why, um, when you get to like, or animal crossing or Valley or whatever, I don't feel those things because there's nobody there saying I'm there to help you while they free.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

So

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Doesn't bother me with those.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

you literally just hate this game because they mention they're going to help you and then they don't. That's the whole.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

I mean, essentially, yeah, that's probably what it boils down to. Like if they come on board my ship, they say, Hey, we have this great connection. I'm, you're my uncle, you're my whatever. I'm here to help you and work with you on this ship. And then they don't, and like I get it. I get what the game is, I get what the morality of it is. I approve of all of those things. I think the idea of that is exceptional. The art style, the music that, like, there's a lot of things to look at and say, this is really, really good. I, it just doesn't work for me. That's all I'm saying. I'm not saying it's bad. I would actually recommend it to a lot of people'cause. It, I can see all of those good elements, and those good elements are not gonna be outweighed by some of those negatives, like they do. For me personally.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

is just like, who do I know? That's a free loader. I will absolutely recommend this game to him.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

This is what you're

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

I,

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

everybody else stop it.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Stop it. I want you to experience what you do to me every day.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Oh, I'm sad that it didn't work for you because that's one of my favorite games.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Me

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

and I can totally understand that. Like I said, I can totally see that it just does not work for me and like I'm okay with that. It's, it's fine. It's.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

to be okay with that.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

was like, I just saved myself a good 40, 50 hours. I feel great.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

I mean, it, it does take a lot of hours to get to the end. That's true.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

But It it's a co, it's a slice of life, cozy game. Like I was not expecting things to be fast pace for me to be doing a lot of things. I was totally expecting to have a lot of chores to do. Um,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

But

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

just,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

frogs and freaking snakes just freeloaded on him, he is like, no rage.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

I really was not that angry about it. It's just like I was a little bit bothered by those things and not invested enough to keep on playing. But like I said, I decided, I was like, okay, I'm kind of done with this at like an hour and 15 minutes in,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Josh is

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

and then I was like. Uh,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

just so we can

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

continued playing it for an hour.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

like I hate these freaking freeloaders making a mod just so I can destroy them. Play God, you're not gonna help me. I'll use your bones to water my plants.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Yeah, I think this was, other than Balder's Gate, was the only other game that I tried to get a hundred percent on,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Oh cool.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

so,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

That's

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

yeah.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Balls

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

right.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

amazing.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

With that, uh, let's stay in video game land. Conlin, what's your topic for us?

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

So speaking of cozy games that I don't think are cozy games, um, I love these card Rolex, like I really enjoy them and slay the spire. I've played some of the mods, but I haven't played them in a long time. um, I found out that they basically made a whole DLC mod for this game and it is awesome and I'm obsessed. So in the original, have you guys, either of you played the original game? Okay. The original game you play as heroes and you're trying to go and defeat the, the monsters and you're trying to get to the final monster and defeat the monster. And each hero has different cards that you can play and they all play wildly different and it's a lot of fun. In the DLC, you play as the monsters and you're trying to beat the hero. And they did a really good job. They have 10 different monsters that you can play and each one of them is completely different. The bonuses that you get along the way are completely different. The specials are completely different, the cards are completely different. They all play differently in smart ways. That makes sense with the monster that you're playing, like there's a gremlins and you can switch between five gremlins and each gremlin has their own unique ability. It's really cool. They have another one where you're encoding parts of cards so you can create your own card that you can play that has its own special ability, and you can be creative with what you are encoding to create something really unique. I loved that one. There's a slime where you slime your opponents and it's absolutely awesome. a guy that has like drones almost, and the drones will do special attacks and you can set the, set up the drones to attack in certain patterns. It's really cool one of these gets more unique when you get to the question marks that are along your pathway. And the question marks will have a unique scenario, like you walk in front of a merchant and the merchant will offer you a special card or, but it costs you a curse. they tailor that curse and that card to each individual monster that you are playing as also have a secret ending to the DLC. Or you have to do a certain, um, certain randomized events in a certain order to be able to unlock this secret ending, that I was able to unlock and I was able to beat, and it's very difficult. They did a good job with the difficulty rating. I lo I love this. I love it. far as DLCs go, it's still not as good as Witcher and it's not as good as Eliza P, but it's an up there, up there, DLC, and it was made by Moders, moders. Way to go. If you guys like slay the spire at all, you should download this. If you play it on your steam deck, download this in the Mods. You can do it. It's pretty easy. Freaking fantastic. Way to go. Good job, moders. I'm super impressed, impressed.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

So if it was the Moders who made it, are they, did they like sell it to the makers of, uh, Spire or,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

offer it for free. It's just a

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

oh, nice.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

twice the size of the original game and it is so good. Like it's, I think, hmm, I can argue that it's better than the original game. Like it's, that's that good.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

So are you gonna just switch to playing the DDLC all the time now?'cause we know like, how many hours do you have on the original?

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

600 and something.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Gonna try to beat that with this new one.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

I, probably won't play it that much, but I've had a really good time. I played through all 10 of the different classes, um, and I'll go through and probably unlock all the cards that are available for the 10 classes. Like it will be my cozy game for the next while because it's, it's just fun and they did such a good job with it.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

So, and like with the original, you're saying like, you'd pop it out all the time. Uh, so it kind of seems like it's a little bit mindless for you. But with the DLC, do you have to kinda like pay more attention because there are so many, uh. Different aspects to it, it seems, or

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Have, there have been so many times playing this DLC where I've been like, that is such a cool idea and cool way of doing it. I love the creativity. So like you have the, the one monster who you create cards and you encode certain abilities and so you, you have so many different options for coding. And I was like, that would be such a cool, uh, cool ability tier. So you can have like, so it starts at the beginning of each round and it heals you and then it summons an alley and you can set up multiple of those and then you have thousands of little minions to destroy your enemy. And it's, there's so many different creative aspects that you can do inside of this game and I love that. I love it.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

That's cool. So it, it takes a little bit more brain power to play or.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Yeah. It, it, it, it requires focus, but it's not like lies of p that's just hard

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Yeah. Express focus.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

it's, I guess it could be cozy, I guess, but it requires de dedication to get through. Otherwise you still will die. It's hard enough that you still will die,

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Okay.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

sense.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Yeah, you have to definitely pay attention and be focused, but it's not like a stress focus.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

yeah. And I can stop and like focus on space balls for a second if I need to focus on space balls or whatever.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Oh,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

it's crazy fun. And Josh, I don't think is into this nearly as much as I am, I would recommend the DLC'cause it is a lot of fun. Have you played any card Rogue likes at all? Lauren?

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

no.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

You should absolutely just try one. They're fun. And I would recommend TRO is the easiest one to get into. That's, that's what I would recommend first.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

I probably won't, but if I do,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

do it, Josh. You don't think she should play tro?

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

No,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Why not?

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

because it's not her kind of game.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

But

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

don't see Lauren getting into any one of these. It, it's not that it's cozy, it's that. you sit there and you go, Ooh, I, can get plus five attack on this card. Or I could do plus two and a half percent. If two point a half percent, what is that? It's like 5.5, but that will scale. You get into that.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

do that. I get into that so hard. I nerd out on

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

I don't see Lauren doing that, so having her play these, games doesn't make sense. I think, uh, story games like Last of us, Lauren should play, uh, card Rogue likes. No, uh, if I were to introduce Lauren to the Roguelike genre in general, I would say, let's play tip Tap to tap because it's cooperative and she gets all the roguelike stuff, she gets to make all those decisions, but it's not solely dependent on her sitting there being invested all of the time.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Yeah. Uh, like to put it in the way of like d and d, you have the people who are super into like the battle portions and like making their character, uh, maximized MinMax. And I will create a crappy character for the sake of story. And so like my stats are like all over the place just for the sake of story, um, versus like midmaxing.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Do you think she would have fun with something like Inscription that has that mystery story behind it still? No. Okay.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

No, uh,'cause the core element is still deck building and

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Mid

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

doing that. And min maxing So like, uh, Lauren, do you like dominion?

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

I dunno what that is.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Okay. It's a hard deck building game. That would be the one way to relate this to you. Uh,'cause like they're very hit and miss for me. So, like, I hate dominion. I think it's terribly boring. I love, uh, thunder stone.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Oh.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

I really got into thunder or to into tro. I was very bored enslaved buyer. I was very invested in Inscription. I. To a point, then I put it down and I have had like no desire to go back and finish it. So like if it's hit and miss for me,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

It's

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

I think it's gonna be 99% misses for Lauren. Maybe there's one out there that she'll hit that she'll connect with is just like, oh, this is awesome. If that's the case, I imagine it's gonna be tro but at the same time it's not like I would put that on a recommendation list for her.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Okay.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Yeah. The only way I would get into cards is if they're pretty cards and I just collect

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

I,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Or if it was part of a larger story type game kind of. I don't know how you would do that

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

anyway.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

anyway.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Uh, what would you rate at the DLC on a scale of one to 10 there? Conlin.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

It's a nine. It's

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Okay.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

or an 11 because it can't be a 10.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

No, I think this is legitimately a nine. Like are two of the DLC characters that are a little bit weaker and I just wouldn't really want to replay those. But the other ones are just great. They're just great and I'm comparing it to some other, so the Spire is not my favorite one. Tro I do think is better. I think uh, Diso answer is better. I think the description is better, but so Aspire is still a lot of fun.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Okay.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

All right. With that being said, Lauren, what is your topic for us for this episode?

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Okay. So it's kind of strange'cause it's the second one in the ink cart series. Uh, ink Spell. I started re-listening to some books that I really liked as a kid. Uh, and I forgot about how obsessed I was with this series. Uh, and as I was. So the concept of this series, um, the first book, there's this father and his daughter, and, uh, you find out that the father has this talent of when he reads aloud from a book, he can read things from that book to come to our reality. But if something comes to our reality, something has to go in. And so he was reading to his daughter with his wife, this is how he found out he had that ability.'cause he was reading to his daughter, his wife got sucked into the book and these characters came out. And so the first book is like these fairytale people being in our world and they're trying to get back. But the problem is the book, I think there's like, it was a limited and there wasn't many books of it. And he read out. villain of the story, some of his lackeys, and then a hero character out of the book. But this hero character, character kind of, he's a coward. And so, uh, the main villain, he's like, I like this world way better than the one I just came from. So he starts burning all of the books, that he just came from so that he can con try to control this world. But then he's also trying to get the dad to read out his most powerful monster from the book so that he could take over this world with that monster. And so there's, you have them trying to catch them and all this stuff. And the second one, it's spoilers For anybody who hasn't read this series, uh, in the first one, they have. The daughter finds out she has the power as well and is able to read the monster out. But she changed the story by writing in some things that she wanted to happen when the monster comes out. So she's like, the monster comes out and like basically portrays his master and then dies. so she reads that aloud and makes it come true. And that's how like they save everything. in the second one, uh, the coward, the hero coward, uh, gets somebody to read him back into the book. But there's another character that wanted to go with him but wasn't able to go with him. So he goes to the daughter and is like, Hey, I need you to read me back into the book. And she's like, you know what? I really want to go into that book as well and I'll just come right back out. It'll be fine. And so she reads this other character in herself into this book, and they like. really excited about living in this fantasy world until she realizes that it's not all fairies and nymphs and magical goodness. It's like, uh, the main bad guy, the ater head is going through and like, there's war brewing and a lot of the people, the story has kept going from where the author had ended it. And so the story's now just going off by itself and she's stuck in there and she's, she can't get her way back out and then her parents end up coming in Anyway, it's this whole thing. But that's kind of the concept is that she has this magical voice that what she reads will come true she can like pull things out of books or put people back in. And uh, I remember being like so obsessed with like, what if I like had that power? And I really liked the descriptions of this world'cause they had. These glass men. I don't know why I was obsessed with these, like kind of like no ish creatures that they would just help you write. So like they would get you the, the ink and the pens and parchments and stuff. And they're basically like, just your assistant for if you wanted to write something. And I just thought that they were really cool. I was like, oh my gosh. I think this is kind of my awakening of realizing that you can create whatever you want in your head if there is an awakening of that. And so this is what got me into like d and d writing, uh,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

That's awesome.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

stories. Yeah. In general. And then I remember I was like texting Josh and I was like, I also realized kind of how sad of a kid I was because I realized that like, looking back, um, when I was a kid, I didn't realize people had friends outside of school. because I didn't have friends outside of school and it amazed me that people were hanging out with each other in summer. And I was like, no, no. Summers where like you play alone in your sandbox and then you drink from a house. Like that's what summer is. Um, and then I realized that I was like playing a lot of these game, like I was, my mind was this world where I was like playing in the sandbox and stuff, and I would like dig up all of this, all of these things and I would have like my Polly Pockets and stuff is like the characters. And uh, yeah, I was really obsessed with this and I forgot that I was, this was like a huge chunk of my childhood now that I think about it. And so it was interesting re-listening to it because now, and it's funny, I, Josh mentioned before, like watching. balls. He's like, with an adult mindset watching it. It's different. And I'm watching this with an adult mindset and I'm like, I completely missed this one aspect of this book, which is really important to this book. Um, because there's a character who's like away from his wife for 10 years and he like makes a friend who's a girl she was away from her husband. And so like, they kind of like bonded about being away from their, their spouses and being enslaved. And then they both get back to their spouses and the spouses are like, are a little chummy with each other. And like the other spouses thought that their others were dead and one of them had moved on and like had kids with another person and uh, I think her husband died. And so once again, everybody was all single, able to be together. But like that went way over my head as a kid. And then now I'm like re-listening to it and it's like I get to listen to a new book. And it's'cause I think they do it well with like this whole weirdness because the one spouse, uh, the one that was buddies and then like went back to her spouse, she like told him everything, whereas the other one did not tell their spouse anything. And that spouse is always like, going on? Like, how do you know her? You guys seem really close. Like, why aren't you talking to me? And the guy's not like telling her anything's like just friends. like, and they were, they were just friends, but it's like, come on, God, give your wife like, some peace of mind. Like they'll just be like just friends. That's it for 10 years. Like, but it's, yeah,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

a very guy response.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

it does. It drives me nuts. But like I said, it's very well written and I believe like the characters and their motivations and like everything's very believable and it's just very interesting concept because you are also, she has like the author of the the book, which is this book in the, there's like a little bit of an inception in there with the explaining of writing and this, this world. But yeah, I think it still holds up and it's been interesting re-listening to it and then remembering a lot of summers where I had adventures by myself. So,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

That is interesting. Do you think the book is as good as the first one?

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Ooh, a second one's better.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Second one's better. Okay,

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Second one's better. I am gonna be reading the third one next week, which is called Ink Death. And we will see if,'cause I, that one's a little bit more foggy of what I remember of it, so I'll have to report on that if it's better than the second one.'cause I'm, I think the second one's way better. I really like it.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Okay. what about the movie? Have you seen the movie? What do you think about it?

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Okay. So very interesting. I think the movie, this is gonna be controversial to anybody who likes Ink Art, love the movie

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Okay.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

because they, they cut it off a way that makes it so that they could have it just be one. And so they didn't do all three. Uh, so I like that version and it has Brendan Frazier in it, which I really like. And the series is narrated by Brandon Frazier, which I think is very smart.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

That's cool.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

it kind of like emerges you in it.'cause he's the, the silver tongue, the guy who can read people in and out of books and he's reading the book to you. And I think that's kind of a fun, smart move on their part.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

I

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Um, but yeah,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

does he do a good

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

I

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

the book?

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

he does actually, I remember listening to the audio before and I was, I couldn't get into it because I think he was very passionate and loud some of the things, like when they're yelling, Brendan is yelling. Uh, but I think actually listening to Dungeon Crawler Carl and having, um, oh, who narrates that again?

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Jeff Hayes.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Jeff Hayes.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

is the writer.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Yeah. Like listening to, I don't think he's as good as Jeff Hayes, but I think he's like in the realm of Jeff Hayes because he does good distinct voices. And I think I was used to other audio books that were kind of more monotone, so I wasn't ready for Brendan Frazier yet. But now that I've had other, um, I've listened to other ones that have such dramatic changes for voices. I think he does it well. He does very well.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

I might need to rewatch the movie.'cause I, I didn't read the book and I watched the movie would've come out when I was like 12, something like that. 13, 14. and I didn't think the movie was very good. I didn't think it was terrible. I, I thought it was, eh, like, I would've been like, eh, I watched that, eh, It made me not really wanna read the book because the

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Hmm.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

just felt so, eh, uh,

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

yeah,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

I'll, maybe I'll give the book a try.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

I was gonna say book is definitely better. Uh, but this is like, I don't think that this is a. I hate the movie because it was such a bad representation of the book. I do think that they skipped on some important details in the movie that like, if you read the book, the movie makes more sense. Um, but I, I enjoyed the movie. Uh, it's not like my top 10, probably not even my top a hundred, but like I had no problem with it. I enjoyed it.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

movie.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Yeah.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Josh with Aragon.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

You know what, I love Aragon too.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

I like Aragon too. I think that, I think that's an underrated movie.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

That's very good.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

this one is like that too. And I, I also like, uh, Percy Jackson. I like the first movie, which no one likes,

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Yeah. I like those two.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

I like the first movie too.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

it's enjoyable even though it's not very good adaption but enjoyable.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

I, I'm really good at dissociating stories, I guess, because. When people are like, this is nothing like that. I'm like, yay. More story. That's kind of the same. Yeah, I guess that's the part of me that like, because I read Fanfic and so I think that's where it doesn't bother me at all because I just see it as a fanfic.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Oh, you read Fanfic. You gotta talk about some of those on the podcast. That is absolutely getting on. Well.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

When I read a good one, I'll let you know.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Fan Fix. We, we want the good stuff. Josh really wants to know all about Twilight Fan. Fix. For those of you just listening, Josh is making you a face. Like that's the stupidest thing I've ever said. We like, no, but.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

you've said stupider things. In fact, like half of what you say is. stupider than what you just said.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

is. Oh. Oh, that was, that was admitting that he does want some Twilight Fan fix. wants it. He probably writes it. We just found out everybody that Josh writes Twilight Fan Fix.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

will find his a o three account of his Twilight Fan fans.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Let me know. I'd love to find out what I've been writing all this time

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Hey, you said you'd be a fantastic director, so I think we're gonna find some Star Wars on Twilight in there.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

I, it's a crossover actually. There's a Star Wars Twilight

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

You know why he's so mad about

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

with vampires.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

with VAM pirates.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Because they stole his idea of

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Yeah.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

pirates in space.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

And every single time that they go to light speed, they twinkle.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Yep. You caught me.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

I knew it, Josh.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Yep. Okay. Lauren, what would you rate it on a scale of one to 10?

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Um, nostalgia bumps it to like a 9.9. Uh. Only thing that would leave it that one point away is just because like I somehow forgot the plot when this was my favorite I mean book and so I'm thinking, I'm like trying to think of, you know, what Ink spell 10. We'll see with Ink Death if it brings it down,

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

What about for new listeners? Like if you were recommending it to somebody, what would you say they would expect?

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

I think other people would, eight,

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Okay,

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

it'd be an eight for other people. Yeah, I think this one was just like so kind of a lifeline to me as a kid that that's why I rate it so high just'cause

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

sir.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

has like built a lot of foundational creativity things in my head that I didn't realize were so. Ingrained in this book.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

think that that's really cool. And for anybody that's watching and you're a kid and you feel alone, it's pretty amazing that read a book and you can escape to a different world and you can find some peace. Or if you're an author and you're writing a book, you might write the book that saves somebody like Lauren, and that's, that's amazing. That's really cool.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Yeah. Corn. You funk.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Well, there you go. All right, we're gonna change gears a little bit. Uh, I've got a second topic for this episode, and that is Mob Land. Uh, this is a TV series about a mob family. Um. Stars. Tom Hardy, he's an executive producer as well. This is like one of his passion project things, Conlan. I'm very curious if you've seen it or heard about it.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

I have heard of it. I haven't watched it.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Okay, Lauren, I don't think this is gonna be your show,

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Why not?

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

but it is exceptional. This is an amazing show. I'm very excited that they green lit this first season two. Uh, we follow Tom Hardy as he's the fixer guy for the family as they go into a mob war with another family. The writing is great. The acting is great. The. It's gruesome and it's serious. And it feels like two mob families playing chess against each other both have wins and losses. Um,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

cool.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

it's not like, uh, what I would compare it to is the penguin show where it kind of feels like the main character really gets a lot of luck. Um, this one is not that way. Both, both have strong victories and strong losses. And the inciting incident that, um, triggers the mob war makes complete sense and the reactions make complete sense and there's some mystery to it where you're trying to figure out who done it of it all at the same time. And Tom Hardy's character, um, balancing his loyalty of his fam, his personal family with his wife and daughter versus the family that basically saved him. Um, he is best friends with the mob family's son. Um, they were in juvenile detention together and kind of dealt with this, um, abusive guard. Um, so they went through that together and gave him a chance and he basically became this master fixer guy. Um, and it makes sense like he, he has that kind of intelligence without being just like great at everything. Um. It is a great mob show. It's exceptional. I absolutely loved it. I was not expecting to be that into it. I was expecting, you know, at best this is probably only pretty good, but this is my favorite mob show ever.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

That's awesome. And it has Pierce Brosnan in it too.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Oh yeah. He does such a good job.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

haven't seen him in anything in forever, and I love Pierce Brossman.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Yeah. Uh, this is my favorite Pierce Brosnan thing.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Wow.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

How

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

I need to watch this. That sounds awesome. sounds awesome.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

you ever seen Peaky Blinders?

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Yes, I have.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

I have. not,

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Okay.'cause I was gonna ask how it compared to that.'cause I weirdly got into Peaky Blinders,

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

okay.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

a

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

may get into this. Um, I have. I'm going to be watching Peaky Blinders this next week because in watching this show, I did a, it's one of those things that completely engrossed me. So I did a lot more deep diving after the show. Like immediately when it was done, I was like, oh my gosh, what's gonna ha, when's there season two? How far are we away from this? I don't even know how new of a show this is Is there a season two? All that kind of stuff. And listening to reviews and people talk about it. They're like, it's not as good as Peaky Blinders, but it's pretty close. But I cannot imagine getting into some like a mob show. more than this one.'cause I was just completely invested in this one.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

I mean,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

is good.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

also has the gimmick of the F and pink blindness,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Yeah, I feel like a lot of people got weirdly into PQ Blinders that are usually not into that kind of show at all.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Yeah, my sister would just always like, look at me, like, do this thing, like that phrase to me all the time and like in the worst accent ever. So funny.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

That's

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

But yeah, I might, I might, uh, check out that I know somebody else had told me to watch it, just because we were talking about Tom Hardy and that, that's a good one. Watch it So

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

I am a big Tom Hardy fan. There's nothing that he is done that I have not liked, and I think he's been a total standout in the movies that aren't as great. I. think he's often the best part of it. So.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

I do not like Dark Night rises. But other than that, I think I've liked all this stuff, but I

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Well, venom, the Last Dance is not a good movie, but I liked Tom Hardy in it.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

I don't

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Right,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Bane. I don't like that movie. Like I don't think he does a good BI think that is his one place where I'm like, I don't like Tom Marty.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

oh.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

that's fair. My experience with Dark Knight Rises was this is the worst movie that has ever existed. I hate this. Why did they do Batman? So dirty. And then other Marvel projects have come out and other DC projects have come out and I'm like, and have gone back and rewatched it, and it's still not my favorite movie of all time, but it's not bad.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

There is that one death scene of the like who raised with Bain or whatever, and she dies really horr, not horribly as in like this was a horrific death, but like bad acting died. But she's an inception and she dies beautifully in that one. And I'm like, the

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

She learned her

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

a piece in

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

lesson. It was the same director for both

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

was it, well

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Arthur Nolans.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

why?

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

I think she learned, I'm guessing there was a outcry of her acting thing.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

was before this.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Dark Night rises?

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Mm-hmm. I'm

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

I don't think so.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Dark Knight Rises in theaters and had the thought. She died in inception and she did a better job then she

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

was first. Inception was 2010 and Dark Knight Rises was 2012.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

forgot.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Well, she didn't learn from her. Less her lesson then. I don't know.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Yeah.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

That's interesting.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

always bothered me. The greatest mystery to Lauren, why she didn't die better. Anyway, that's my tangent. I'll get off my soapbox.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

about for the last like. 10, 12, 10. Well, 13, whatever. Freaking amount

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

I have a string board over there of like, why.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Um, anyway, so my, uh, rating for Mob Land is it's like a nine outta 10 show. I absolutely love this. This is a show where I am so excited for season two. I'm going to rewatch season one as soon as season two. starts coming out. Uh, I'm very analytic. I don't see any big holes. Like I said, I just, I'm very invested in it. It, it's, it's. So good.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Okay. I will watch it. That sounds awesome.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

It's very, very good. Okay. All right. With that being said, we're gonna go into our shared topic, uh, for this episode. Lauren, this was your idea.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Mm-hmm.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

don't you introduce it and give us your thoughts.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

All right, so the Eagle. Uh, I would say this is in the same realm as Cool Runnings, and in fact, we're watching it this week. I noticed that they gave a little shout out to Cool Runnings and they're like, oh, well maybe we'll see how the Jamaican bobsled is doing.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Yeah,

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Um, And so, um, I remember my dad telling me about this Olympics before this movie came out about how he was, he loved how everybody, like all of the nations, everybody was cheering for Eddie. Um, and like the comradery of that moment. And I like in the movie how it keeps telling, like, the whole point of the Olympics isn't about like the best, like the fastest, but like doing your personal best and doing something that you are proud of and making sure that you can live with yourself with like the struggle and everything that you have done to get to this point. To show everybody. What you can do. Not necessarily like, uh, there's one moment where he's in the elevator with the fin guy. the flying fin is what they call him. And he, he is like, I got gold, but I didn't do my best. And he was like, upset with that. And, and Eddie's like, I, I don't get it. You won gold. Like, what are you saying? And he's like, he's like, you need, uh, the jump that he did on 70 meter wasn't his best because he had to qualify with a 61. And what he did at the Olympics was a 60. And the Finn was like, you shouldn't be proud of that. You've done better. You need to do your best here while the world's watching you. Uh, it doesn't matter if you come in last, but you need to do your best, your personal best. And because I liked how, um. They like portrayed him very well of the fin guy very well, where it seems like he's like, I'm not being patronizing. I'm trying to give you like words of wisdom. I'm not trying to be a jerk here. I'm like trying to tell you to do your best. And, uh, and I really like that.'cause when you first meet him, he is just a jerk to Eddie. but then in the end, like, oh, I just love the progression of this movie of everybody. Like I love how his mom is always like cheering Eddie on and then everybody else, it seems like the whole world's against him until everybody realizes that like, you know what? He is doing his best, he is doing what he wants to do. And then ev he slowly wins everybody over by the end of the show. Um, and it's just very wholesome. Uh, I love, uh, how, who's the actor that plays Eddie in this?

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Karen Eggerton.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Yes, he is. He did phenomenal in this, in portraying him and like setting his face to actually look like, Eddie Edwards because they show pictures of, uh, Eddie at the end and he does such a good job with like the facial expressions and everything. He into this character. this is, um, one of my, I think, cool runnings and Eddie the Eagle are like my top two for sports movies. These are, they're very wholesome, very like dream big and stuff. And there's things that made me so mad in the movie, like his dad being like, you need to, you need to actually work and like put these dreams behind you. Mom. I don't know how to. To real life. That was with like the mom being like, yeah, I knew he was gonna take your band and you're also gonna hate what I did with your tools and stuff so that Eddie could go to the Olympics. But like to have like one to have a mom that's like so supportive of you and that, and like, whenever he's like, oh, I'm heading off to the Olympics when he is eight and like walking down the street. And she's like, okay, well you're gonna need this for your medals. And she like tells her husband to go pick him up. And then, uh, that was like a running thing of like, she's like, where are you going? And then when he actually was going to the Olympics, he's like, I'm going to the Olympics. And it like, makes me wanna cry.'cause you're just like so happy for Eddie and his mom. and like the one part, sorry, my dog's digging on the chair. Is it soft? There you go. Anyway, so he. Like I, I didn't like that his dad kind of like against him on all of it. And like there was like at the very end that he was softening when they were going down the 90 meter where you see him like leaning over to see how he was gonna do on the jump. And then at the end he's like, oh, well now that you did accomplish something, now I'm gonna be proud of you. Whereas the mom was proud of him for trying and for sticking with it throughout the whole thing, is what like to me. And once again, I don't know if that's true in real life, but in the movie that's how it was portrayed. And I, I didn't like that, but he had to accomplish something to get his, the pride of his dad when his dad knows, like his dad was like his, the biggest obstacle I feel like, for him to actually go to the Olympics and stuff. And so, ugh. Just wanted to ring the dad's neck, but I also get where the dad was coming from. But I think the biggest thing for me was that just wasn't supportive until he came home from the Olympics, but yeah.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Good news for you. Uh, the show, the movie is only 5% accurate, so. Other than the basic premise, everything is made up.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Okay. Cool.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Conlan, what about you? What are your thoughts on this?

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

So I, I found out that it was made up and I was like, much do I care? Because I had a really, really good, enjoyable time with this movie. I wish that it was more accurate, but it's just so good. And speaking of actors that I just like Taryn Eggerton so underrated. He is so bloody damn good, and he just deserves more acclaim than he gets. He just does. Um, my wife. I, love this guy. I think he's great. Blackbird is on my top 10 TV shows of all time. I freaking love that show. He's incredible. Tetris is amazing. The fact that he sings in s in sing and does so good, like his voice is wonderful. Um, it crystal age of resistance, I think is wildly underrated. It got no love and I love that show. rocket Man, he's great. He is just so damn good. And I've watched all of these movies with my wife, so she's seen him. She knows what he looks like. He transformed so much in this movie. She didn't know it was him. this came out a year after Kingsman. That is mind blowing. He looks like a different person. I, so impressed with him. The movie was fun. It is like the kind of movie that we are looking for where you. Saying, shoot for a dream. Go for something big. Believe in yourself when you literally fall on your face over and over and over again. Get up and do it again. Um, a very like movie, of a basic, there's a lot of basic movie stuff in this movie, but it's done well and it's really enjoyable. The Hugh Jackman is enjoyable. Hugh Jackman does. He's a very Hugh Jackman Wolverine, but not Wolverine kind of character, but he does a good job with it and it's enjoyable. It's, it as good as cool runnings? No, it's not cool runnings. If you say it's your favorite sports movie, I do not blame you at all. It would be on my list, and it would depend on the day, to be completely honest. It's great, but this one is a highly, highly enjoyable movie I would watch again. What about you, Josh? we both wrong? are you gonna be the grumpy old man?

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Yes, uh, I agree with everything that you guys have said. Um. Save for like, I agree, it's a cool runnings type show,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Yeah.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

but cool runnings is very, very good. And even it, I think, would float around number 10 if I were to rate top 10 sports movies.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Okay.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Like, I really, really like it. It's just not over the top for me.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Fair enough.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

one's not as good as that one, like you said, like it, it's fairly close. It's very, very good. Um, but it's, It's not, quite as good. Um, my only complaint about this show is Hugh Jackman. Um, I, I, this is not the best performance that I've seen him do and, uh. The thing that really bothers me about his character is his complete 180 turn when he's like, no, I'm not doing it. I hate this. Drinking's great. And then he gets a phone call and is like, well, if you finance it, I'm in. And I'm like, what are you talking about you? We literally just had a scene where he was yelling at Taran Eggerton telling him that his dream is pointless and it's dumb for him to do that, and he is not gonna do it. And then the next day

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

like,

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

I'm like, okay. I'm like,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

I agree.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

what the freak? Um, other than that, I think all the other actors do an extremely good job. Um, even though none of them are real, uh, like at all, uh, they still do a really, really good job. Um. It, it's a very good feel good movie And like if you are kind of feeling a little bit down and you just want that something that like the whole purpose is just hope. it's just hope. That's all it is. Feel good. Hope. Cool. Runnings this one. You've got that. Like

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

And the

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

turn one of these on. It's great.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Olympics. This is such a good double feature. this is an amazing double feature

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Yeah.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

runnings.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Well I, I know that at the time they were trying to let more amateurs into the sport, into the Olympics. Um, so it makes me want to dive deeper on why it was the same Olympics that had both of these things happen with Jamaica being the first bobsled and, you know, great Britain. Giving their first, uh, long jump gear. Um, the historian me in me is also kind of bothered by just how untrue it is. It, this isn't a story that I personally connected with. And while I was watching, I was like, oh, That's not true. Oh, that's not true. Oh, that's not true. It was one that I researched after and I was like, oh,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

That's how I was too.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

it's not true. You know, he had a lot more support than what was led on. He had two coaches, not one, his name was Michael, not Eddie. Um, it was given to him when he did the parade that he supposedly missed in the movie. Uh, he, you know, all of those things where it's like, ugh,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

Like

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

know,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

story is still really good. You didn't

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

the real story is so good. You really didn't need to do that. Uh, I still want to know more. Like he's very clearly on the spectrum. I don't know how true his representation was that, like how it, was he really that. far on it or, or not.'cause when you look at kid version, he's not very far on it. And then when it shows Terry Hagen's version, he's pretty far on it and it's like, I don't, I don't know.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

I just watched some interviews with him and I think Tara Taran Eggerton did a very, very good job.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Okay.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

I don't know how much she's on the spectrum either, but as far as portraying him, good job.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Okay. Well that was it. It's just a question. I'm not saying it was wrong, but Right. It's a, I'm interested to know kind of answer.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

fair

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Um, for me, I would give this like a 7.8 out of 10. Um, and for. Everybody's knowledge. I would give cool runnings like an eight out of 10 like that. That's how close I would rate these movies. If you like one, you're gonna like the other. It's very, very good. Conlin, what about you?

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

This one's like, uh, also 7.8. I was right around that range, but Cool. Runnings to me is like an 8.9. I love that movie.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Okay,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

high.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

Lauren.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Yeah, I would say nine because like you said earlier, when you're like, if you're feeling down, this is a good pick me up movie, and this is literally the movie I watch to pick me up when I'm down.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

That's really cool.

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

And what would you, rate Cole Runnings? I.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

yeah.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

I like them. It would be like, it would be nine. Uh, I can't tell which one I like more. Um,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

fact that Cool Runnings has, I'm freezing my Rastafari ladies off. Just that alone makes it a better movie. That one line is one of my favorite lines in movie history.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

I do, I do, uh, say, are you dead all the time.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

so freaking quotable. I love, I love cool runnings. I used to give Cool Runnings a nine. I freaking love that movie.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Yeah. Uh, yeah, I was gonna say they're very, they're very tied for me. Um, but I think I need to watch Cool Runnings again. It might be higher than Eddie, um,

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:

wanna kiss My Lucky Egg? Corona's the best.

lauren_4_07-02-2025_182503:

Yaman, but

josh-dietrich_4_07-02-2025_142505:

right. I think with all that being said, uh, everybody go watch out of the eagle. It's one I held out on, I shouldn't have. You should just watch this movie. It's just good, positive, enjoyable stuff. Um, thank you. Anybody else, anybody for listening and for watching. Don't forget to hit that subscribe button. Appreciate you guys and have a peaceful day.

konlin-gappmayer_4_07-02-2025_182502:
